Whether this be a dating relationship, marriage, friendship or familial relationship, it is important that you know what to look for to ensure that your relationship is healthy. A healthy relationship will help you grow, and make you feel safe.

Domestic Violence is more common than people may think.

In 2017, there were 72, 367 reported incidents of intimate partner violence in Canada.

Both males and females may become a victim of family violence, and females are 3x more likely than males.

Between 2009-2017, 3% of all intimate partner violence involved same-sex partners.

Intimate partner violence is more common in rural areas than urban (1.7x higher)

70% of all family violence is not reported to the police.

If you are experiencing abuse, know that it is NOT your fault and you are NOT alone. Abuse can happen to anyone, regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, or socio-economic background.

Domestic Violence can take many forms in a relationship:

Physical Abuse (e.g. hitting, pushing, punching, burning, etc.)
Emotional/ Psychological Abuse (e.g. harassment, threats, breaking your things, isolating you from friends and family, etc.)
Sexual Abuse (e.g. Sexual assault or sexual touching without permission, etc.)
Financial Abuse (e.g. taking your money without permission, withholding money so you cannot pay for things you or your children need, etc.)
Spiritual Abuse (e.g. not allowing you to practice your faith, etc.)
